Who we are
Pico Rojo is a family owned restaurant that was created with the concept of introducing Latin American Rotisserie Chicken and foods cooked in an ecological, natural and flavorful way, a gourmet way.
Our food
We cook our rotisserie chicken in an Ecological Charcoal Rotisserie-Oven brought from South America (it took several months to get it here!). The oven is made of steel and lined with ceramic that heats with natural charcoal. Its ecologic design reduces the fumes emission to a minimum without compromising the unparallel flavor of the natural charcoal.
Our chicken is delicious because, it follows a slow cooking process that starts with the seasoning. We only cook natural birds that have never been frozen and are free of hormones and preservatives (we do not add food enhancers such as MSG, there is no phosphates in the chicken). We marinate the chicken with more than 10 spices for 24 hours, and then, we slow cook them in the Rotisserie-oven for an hour. The result is a delicious and flavorful chicken with moist meat and crunchy skin. The oven drips almost all the fat and adds the charcoal flavor to the meat. The flavors are not overwhelming just the right amount to give an indescribable taste.
The salads, sandwiches, and sides we serve are also seasoned and prepared with fine ingredients such as kosher sea salt, natural spices, and olive oil. We deep-fry some of the starches with peanut oil (a cholesterol friendly oil) and pan fry or sauté in olive oil (cheese and other vegetables such as corn or asparagus). The result: superb, healthy food.
Our service, placing an order, how it works
We have created a place with top gourmet food, great atmosphere, and low prices. How? Self-serve and disposable products. We ask you to place your order at the counter, pick up your food, and, when you are done, dispose of your trash on your way out. We love to bring orders to the tables and mingle with our guest when there is no rush. But, is best if you help yourself when there is a buzz. In that way we can keep our service costs low and pass those savings onto you. If we do not have to pay wait staff and do not have to wash dishes, cutlery or table clothes, we can buy good food and price it low!
Having fun is part of the food experience
We invite you to eat the chicken with your hands .... if you'd like. And, please, do experiment with our sauces, aji (the hot jalapeno) and Pico Rojo (mayonnaise based), mix them up to your liking or heat tolerance, or, do not mix them at all, and, please, dunk in your concoction! your chicken, your fries, your cheese, your yucca, plantains and even the rice. Is all good. Ah! please, do not forget to try our salads, sandwiches, desserts, specials, and home made sangria. They are great too.
Isabel's Kids corner
At Pico Rojo we want all our guest to feel welcome and at home. This includes the young guests who come flavor our meals. We know that children also need to have a good time while grownups converse over a good meal. So, we made room for a table with a chalkboard for kids to socialize and have fun. Our daughter Isabel is the host of that small area and redecorates it constantly for all guests to enjoy.
Our name and logo
Pico Rojo means Red Beak and our logo is an inspiration on our daughters, Isabel, drawings (displayed in our kids section). Pico Rojo is a cool happy chicken braised by sunshine. The way we would like everyone to feel.
Our Mission and Goals
We strive to provide superior food and customer service. To this end, we serve the best quality natural food in a pleasant, relaxed, welcoming, and fun atmosphere. A different dinning experience.
Our goal is to reach the point where our guests feel at home and help us contribute to our environment, our community and business growth.
Our commitment to our costumers and our community
We want our guest to feel at home knowing us by name, product, and organization. Trusting us enough to provide us with their feedback and support so that we can reach our environmental goal. When we created the concept of the restaurant, we wanted to serve our natural food in natural eco-friendly products (like the deli paper in our trays). Unfortunately, budget constraints prevent us from having only recycled food serving products. In time though, with our guests support, we will get there.

• Rotisserie chicken. Readers tipped me to this one: A moist, flavorful chicken leg and thigh with two sides like tostones and fried yucca for an affordable $6.50.

Honestly, this my absolute favorite lunch place in Pinellas County. To start, The chicken is all natural, horomone free. The quarter chicken white w/ two sides is 8 bucks, and more than enough food. Their side items are all great( I suggest the fried plantains, asparagus, or the beans and rice). Their fried yucca may be the best I've ever had. Their meals and sandwiches are paired with the homeade 'pico rojo' sauce, and diced jalapeño to increase the heat, if you like. The side salad dressing is lime juice and olive oil, and it's so awesome. They also have a great drink selection of international sodas ( imported coke made w cane sugar!) and homeade sangria.
The married couple that owns the place are always around and are so nice.

A fairly new place in the Clearwater area this is a wonderful restaurant. The owner is Bolivian and it really comes through. Clearwater has a serious lacking of authentic Spanish places (especially compared to Tampa) and Pico Rojo is a welcome addition. The chicken is marinated over night and cooked over natural charcoal. I have NEVER had a piece of chicken as juicy as this was. We also had some fried cheese which was nice, steak fries, and yucca fries which were OUTSTANDING. The chicken is served with a combination of sauces which also really enhance the flavor. It has a nice pleasant atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. Beer and wine and a plethora of drinks are also available. We will definitely be going back soon and often.
